Wetherspoon
The premises consists of two former separate buildings of which one was a bank and the other was originally a place of worship. The challenge was to maintain existing structure, features and character of the building and at the same time to provide a modern hospitality place able to accommodate high numbers of guests who may not be familiar with the layout.. Due to the diverse nature of the building unusual challenges like level differences throughout the areas and existing features that require upgrade to comply with modern building standards had to be solved.
Change of floor levels where possible and modern additions such as platform lifts made it possible that the whole place is wheelchair accessible. Using existing stairs and adding additional escape routes where possible, enabled to provide sufficient escape routes for a higher number of occupants then it would have been the case in the original use.. Existing floor openings had been taken into account and escape routes have been arranged in conjunction with the provision of active fire safety systems in order to eliminate any issues arising with this situation.
This is a functioning bar that serves food and drink in the centre of Dublin as part of the Wetherspoons family. It keeps its traditional appearance with modern and up to date facilities to create the best experience for all customers to enjoy their time there.
