Nothing beats theoretical knowledge married to first-hand practical experience. As one of Ireland’s most renowned Fire Safety Engineers, Ray brings both practical and theoretical knowledge to his job, having worked as a Fire Officer and in the front line of fire as a fire fighter.
An honours graduate in Civil Engineering and holder of a master’s degree in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Ulster, Ray started his career with Kildare County Council as Assistant Fire Officer (AFO). During his two and half years with Kildare County Council, Ray was Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) and gained firsthand experience on the inner workings of Local Authorities and the Fire Service.
During this time, Ray was also a fire fighter with Kildare’s Central Fire Station – one of the country’s busiest. Throughout his five years as a fire fighter, Ray was involved in some 1,000 callouts, including factory fires, gas explosions and serious car crashes. His work as a fire fighter provided invaluable first hand and operational experience of fire, and a unique insight into the practical side of fire safety applications.
Ray is a member of the Engineers of Ireland (EI) and the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE).
Personal – Ray is a busy Dad-of-three, but finds time for Kilkenny hurling (who in Kilkenny doesn’t have time for hurling!!). His other passions are long distance running, duathlons and triathlons.
